Best Practices for Instagram Stories

1) Don’t worry about being perfect
Keep it short and sweet to keep you audience’s attention. This is a behind the scenes look into who you are and who you serve.

2) Keep it real in real time
Just show up as you. That is the best part! Your feed is for all the curated and beautiful from your wedding business or creative work, thi is your portfolio, your stories are for the real. Dream clients will so appreciate the real nature of your stories.

3) Show up by showing your face
Trust me I break out in hives when I have to show my face, it still happens even though I have been doing this for well over a decade. Showing your face is where you get to connect and build that relationship with your potential dream clients. In the beginning it is uncomfortable, the more you do it, the more it becomes part of your everyday and it will feel more natural. Schedule in your calendar when you are going to show up on stories. The accountability will make it happen.

4) Captions are a must
85% of video is watched with sound off. It is important to get those captions on there to captivate your audience. You can add them manually or use an app like Clipomatic which captions everything for you. 

5) Highlights are for your best stories
Highlights allow you to give others a little preview into who you are and how you can help them if they don’t follow you. For example you might have one for your best work, one where you share wedding tips, latest reviews, etc. You can also brand your highlight covers which is a lot of fun and helps you and your business stand out.

6) Use hashtags and tag your location
You can use up to 10 hashtags on a story and hide them behind a sticker or your captions, you can do the same with your location. Both make your stories more discoverable.

7) Engagement options are the most fun
Add a sticker, a question or poll to get your engagement up. This is a great way to connect with your target audience and follow up with them through a DM. You can also get an idea of what types of content your target audience wants to see.

Stories is where the magic happens! Build that like, know, trust factor and always remember, people by from people. Can’t wait to see you show up!
